East Bay Challenge: Course Record For Walker; Burr Dominates Girls' Race


Westerly's Matt Walker sizzled to a course record at Thursday's East Bay Challenge. Walker was just two clicks from dipping under 16 minutes, finishing the five-kilometer race with a winning time of 16:01. He was a comfortable 200-meters ahead of runner-up Kyle Keefe of Chariho, who was timed in 16:36. The Chargers' Evan O"Neil was third in 16:49. With its five scoring runner among the first seven placements, Chariho easily captured the team title, defeating second-place Westerly, 21-67.

Randi Burr of Westerly continued her strong season by coasting to the girls' title with a fast 18:39 clocking. Liz Sullivan of host Portsmouth was second in 19:00. Sullivan and the Patriots took the team crown with a 28-34 decision over runner-up Westerly.
