Bouthillette Shatters State 2M Mark At Brooks PR

In a highly-competitive two-mile race at the Brooks PR Invitational Saturday afternoon, Matt Bouthillette established another state record.

The recent La Salle Academy graduate finished eighth overall with a time of 8 minutes, 53.94 seconds. His time smashed the 2012 record of 9:00.90, set by former Chariho great Mike Marsella. Bouthillette's time of 8:21.10 at the 3K mark was also under ex-Westerly standout Andrew Springer's R.I. record of 8:23.3 at the 2009 Hendricken Invitational. The future Georgetown runner also holds the 3,200m mark.

With a closing 400m of 57 seconds, Ohio's Andrew Jordan of Watkins won the individual title at Brooks in 8:50.12. In all, 13 runners dipped under nine minutes in the race.

Of note, Bouthillette's time at the Brooks meet was nearly 10 seconds faster than the winning time of the two mile at the New Balance Nationals.
