Due to the fact that the seeding for the meet is determined by times or distances recorded at an athlete's respective state meet, La Salle Academy's Jack Salisbury was ranked No. 14 and in the unseeded heat of the 800-meter run. That was based on his winning 1:56 effort at the states after also capturing the 1,500m and running the lead-off leg on the 4x800m relay. The Ram standout quickly proved he was in a heat he didn't belong. Salisbury blew away from the field by the first 400m, passed in 54 seconds. He continued his torrid pace and finished with the fastest time of the day, a winning and personal best of 1:52.87.
