Former Barrington High standout Adam Kelly (Princeton) and ex-Classical star Marthaline Cooper (Winthrop) earned a ticket to the NCAA Division I Championships.
Competing in the hammer throw of the Div. I East Preliminary Round on Thursday, Kelly tossed the metal ball a distance of 214 feet, 7 inches. The Princeton freshman took the final qualifying spot by taking 12th overall. Cornell's Rudy Winkler won the event with a throw of 231-5.
In the women's competition, Cooper was tenth overall. The junior from Winthrop had a toss of 193-5. Bekcie Famurewa of Kentucky placed first with a heave of 207-2.
The Div. I Championships will be held from June 8-11 at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.
