Russell triumphant at Throwers Pentathlon


Classical High state champion and All American Lysah Russell demonstrated her versatility insides the circle by winning the Woonsocket Thrower's Pentathlon on Thursday.

Russell, who finished third in the weight throw at the New Balance Nationals last month, compiled 1,996 points. Placing second was Lincoln's Sam Andrews (1,934 points) and taking third was Smithfield's Alyssa Colbert (1,908 points).

Russell won two of the five events. She was first in the 25-pound weight with a distance of 51 feet, 10 inches. She also was triumphant in the hammer with a heave of 157-10. Colbert won the three remaining events. She had a toss of 34-9.5 in the shot. She also took care of the discus (114-10) and the javelin (114-10).
