Central sets State Mark for 4x400m relay!

The Central High boys' 4x400 relay set a new R.I. state record on Saturday. Running at the Ocean Breeze Invitational meet in New York, the Knights clocked 3 minutes, 22.48 seconds while placing second. Junior Donatien Djero - the state's defending 300-meter champ - helped power the Central foursome on Saturday with his negative split of 49.4 on the anchor leg. The Knights' time eliminated the standard of 3:24.12 set by a Hendricken relay at the 2011 New Balance Championship at the Armory Track Center in Manhattan.

Doing the honors for the Knights and their splits: Juniors Austin Wolo (50.4) and Dametrius O'Connor (50.9); Anthony Vega (51.8) and Djero (49.4).

Oval Notes: At the Penn State Invitational on Saturday, Stanford University sophomore Madeleine Berkson clocked a winning time in the 1000 meters. Berkson hit the tape in 2:47.08. The second-place finisher - junior Amy Cashin of West Virginia - went 2:49.61.
