Boys' Class Meet Preview

Remember the 1997 blockbuster hit movie, "Titanic." Remember one of the final scenes where Rose, played by Kate Winslet, is lying on top of a floating driftwood as the British cruiseliner sinks to the ocean floor. Remember how Leonardo DiCaprio's Jack is hanging on to that piece of wood while professing is final words of love to his week-long cruise date. Don't know about you, but it seems that old Jack could have clearly saved his life and not met a similar fate as the sinking vessel behind him by just hoisting his body up there with Rose. There clearly was enough room. But often times things are unexplainable, often times things just don't make sense.

The same could be said for the championship season. On paper, and based on what's been happening throughout the season, it might seem clear who will be the best teams and athletes at the class and state meets. But it doesn't always work out that way. There's always some surprises, always some disappointments and plenty of head-scratches. That's why we play the game. That's why this is the best time of the season.

And it all starts this weekend with the class championships on Ponaganset's covered-bridge trail.

Here's our prognosis on all three boys' class meets. Coming tomorrow, we'll feature the girls' class meets. It's gonna be fun!
