Rhody earns two gold medals at Junior Olympics

Rhode Island hammer-throwers claimed gold in two age categories at the USATF National Junior Olympic Championships on Wednesday.

Woonsocket's Jared Briere captured the age 15-16 category with a personal-best toss of 202 feet, 9 inches. Finishing third and fourth, respectively, were fellow teammates Dilyn Cote (177-10) and Jacob Greenless (177-0).

Barrington's Bobby Colantonio was a winner in the age 17-18 division with a heave of 222-06.

In the girls' competition, two athletes earned All-American status, both coming in the age 17-18 category. Smithfield's Meagan Malloy was third at 150-09 and Woonsocket's Tara Rochefort placed seventh with a distance of 137-05.
