Twice as nice for some at frosh/soph invite

North Providence's Nathan Coogan won the 1,500m and 800m on Saturday.

Woonsocket's Jared Briere, Central's Austin Wolo, North Providence's Nathan Coogan, Barrington's Lauren Richardson and Portsmouth's Sophia White were all double-winners at the Cumberland Freshmen/Sophomore Invitational Saturday at Tucker Field.

Richardson captured the triple jump with a leap of 32 feet, 9.25 inches and had a top height of eight feet in the pole vault. White was first across the line in the 1,500-meter run (5 minutes, 13.80 seconds) and the 800m (2:28.10). Also for girls, Barrington's Grace Connolly captured the 3,000m with an impressive time of 11:09.70, nearly a minute ahead of her closest competitor.

The Villa Novans' Jared Briere dominated the weight events for boys by taking care of business in the hammer with a heave of 197 feet and shot put with a distance of 40-1.50. Wolo blazed to victory in the 400m with his time of 53.90 and the 200m at 22.90. Coogan broke the tape in the 1,500m at 4:25.80 and was triumphant in the 800m in 2:10.30.
