We are here! Day 1 of Penn Relays

Karina Tavares clocked a 2:23.67 800m leg for La Salle's DMR squad.

Rhode Islanders will be represented by their female athletes during Day 1 of the Penn Relays Carnival at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field.

Highlighting Thursday's events is La Salle Academy's DMR squad that's set to begin at 6:10 p.m. The competition for the Ocean State kicks off with the Small School 4x100m relay with three schools (Pilgrim, Hope, Juanita Sanchez) scheduled to hit the track at 11:10 a.m.

In the other races, La Salle will have a team in the Large School 4x100m relay (12:20 a.m.) and also a quartet competing in the 4x400m relay (3:20 p.m.)

Thursday's recaps
  • Hope high finished second in its heat of the Small School 4x100m relay with a time of 52.33. Comprising the team was Chevell Burgess, Isis Hack, Destiny Hughes-Barnes and Quashira McIntosh.
  • La Salle Academy placed 11th in the Distance Medley Relay with a time of 12:23.35. The squad included Sheridan Wilbur (3:45.12, 1,200m), Jess Apajee (1:05.73, 400m), Karina Tavares (2;23.67, 800m) and Eliza Rego (5:08.85, 1,600m).

Sheridan Wilbur opened up with a 3:45.12 1,200m leg for the Rams' DMR squad.
