Fastest times posted by Clippers at Twilight Relays

The second annual Twilight X-C Relays on Wednesday night accomplished its goal once again of providing a competitive and fun event for high school runners.

This year’s meet, a series of 3x1 mile relays, kicked off with a pair of freshmen events. Burrillville took the girls’ race with a time of 22 minutes, 40.83 seconds. In the boys’ competition, it was Bishop Hendricken with the trio of Gian Pandolfini (5:30.55), Alex Monsour (5:38) and Harry Antone (5:33) combining for a time of 16:41.88.

Smithfield, which utilized the meet as a tune-up for workout on the track immediately following its race, won the girls' varsity event. The Sentinel team of Stephanie Mattson (5:57), Rebecca Meinertz (6:20) and Madison Saliba (6:24) defeated Chariho by less than four seconds with a combined clocking of 18:40.81. The Chargers finished at 18:44.19.

The Sentinels were also victors in the boys’ varsity event with the threesome of junior Adam Courtemanche (5:09), senior Carlton Eaton (5:19) and senior Dan McCutcheon (5:08) posting a time of 15:36.66. Smithfield also snagged second place with a time of 15:50.26. That squad consisted of sophomore Chris Anderson (5:18), junior Emmett Connole (5:25) and sophomore John Pagliaro (5:07).

In the elite races, Cumberland’s boys’ and girls’ clocked the fastest times of the night. The senior trio of David Agudela (4:43), Matt Fownes (5:01) and Abdullah Kaba (4:54) was timed in 14:34.57. The junior threesome of Meaghan Scullin (5:51), Amy Laverty (5:50) and Nichole Barger (5:54) combined for a time of 17:40.89.
