Saad, Crofford snare titles at PawSox 5K

Julien Saad and Lara Crofford took home the respective men's and women's titles Saturday morning at the third annual PawSox 5K.

Saad, a Providence College grad student, blazed to a course record in the five-kilometer event, which finishes inside McCoy Stadium. The 22-year-old runner was timed in 14 minutes, 28.0 seconds. He was a minute ahead of Kenya's Glarius Rop, who was second at 15:28.

Crofford, 25, a member of the New England Distance Project, was also a convincing winner. She finished fifth overall with a time of 17:48. Elise Morgan, 35, of Southborough, Mass., was the runner-up at 20:15.

The race, held under sunny skies, had a record 385 finishers.
