Rams, Eagles, Sentinels take girls' class titles

The girls’ teams of La Salle Academy, Pilgrim and Smithfield took Class A, B and C team championships respectively.

In the Class A meet, held at Cumberland’s new track facility, Hope High junior Quashira “Q” Mc Intosh dominated the dashes. She clocked 11.7 in the 100, and 24.7 to win the 200 meters. Three gold medals went to Classical junior Alva Hicks. Hicks, the reigning state record-holder in the girls’ discus, won the Class A title with a throw of 136-6 (41.60). She put the shot a winning 38-8 (11.78), and unloaded the hammer 160-6 (48.92). North Kingstown senior Maria Bolibruch nipped Classical’s Alicia Holloway to take the 100-meter high hurdles. Bolibruch went 14.4, hand-held to Classical’s Alicia Holloway, who came in a tenth of a second later. (The state record is 14.44, FAT/+1.0w).
 

 
Pilgrim got 20 points from sophomore Emma Landroche, who won both dash events in the Class B meet at Westerly. In the 3000 meters, Westerly High senior Jackie Burr easily won in 10:11.7. Burr finished second in the 1500 to Barrington senior Megan Verner-Crist. The Patriots’ Rebecca O’Donnell claimed wins in the horizontal jumps. O’Donnell went 15-2 (4.92) in the long jump, and 34-4 (10.46) in the triple.

In the Class C Championship at Ponaganset, Narragansett High senior Leia Mistowski won the hammer in 165-10 (50.54). Shannon Hugard, a senior at Middletown High clocked 2:14.4 for gold in the 800. Morgan Hart, of Exeter/West Greenwich, went 9 feet (2.74) to win the pole vault, while Smithfield High senior Raevyn Fontains went 17-2 (5.23) to take the long jump.
